1840 Census Bloomfield Township, Knox County, Ohio

Below is the charted information from the Census for the family of Walter Dunham (#35) in 1840. On another portion of the census, not copied below, 3 persons are employed in Agriculture, there are 2 white persons under 20, 2 white persons 20 thru 49, and 6 free persons in all. Since Walter was born in 1788, he would have been 52 and listed as the male 50 - 60. His wife, Elizabeth ___ (#36) was born in 1798, so she would be 42 and the female listed as 40-50. It is unknown who the male is that is listed as 60 - 70.

Other listings are probably four of the children of Walter and Elizabeth. Ann Mariah Dunham (#18), born in 1815, would have been 25 years old. She is probably the female listed as 20-30. The female aged 5 - 10 is likely Almeda Dunham. Although the date of her birth is unknown, she is the only female child it could be. Susan L. Dunham died 3 years before this census and Harriett Dunham was not born until 1844, 4 years after this census. Chancey C. Dunham, born in 1822 would have been 18 in 1840. He is likey the male listed as 15 - 20.

Three children missing from the census are Samuel, George, and Susan. Samuel was born circa 1828 (Source of purple information above: Susan Williams e-mail address: slw02@sprynet.com) and would have been ~12 years of age, George Dunham's birthdate is unknown, but he was married in 1849, so he had to have been born. Susan had died in 1837.
