Lawrence emigrated from England to Salem, Massachusetts on board the ship Abigal in 1629. He founded a church in Salem and he built and operated the first iron foundary in the colonies. [Lawrence would have been 49 years old when he made the trip.]

Lawrence was in Salem, Massachusetts by 1629. He was the first Leach to come to Pawling just before the first census.

He and his wife had 10 children: Robert, Clement, John, Margaret, Ambrose, Richard, Edmund, Rachel, James (#1,025), and Giles.
