1,377. Henri Le Marchand (Married Mary Ruscoe (#1,378) (Source of purple is The Association of the Descendants of Henry Mershon.) (Source of light blue information is Donna Patterson, Great Great Great Grandaughter of Francis Mettler (#43) and Hannah Mashon (Meshon) (Mershon) (#44), in e-mails to Susan Snyder in 2014).
Born: about 1650 of Unknown Father (# 2,753) and Unknown Mother (# 2,754) in Caen, Calvados, Basse-Normandy, France.
Died: after 1685 [This is the date he arrived in New York].
[His siblings, if any, are unknown]
Miscellaneous Information:
Henri was probably a merchant in Caen, Normandy, France. He likely left France to escape religious persecution and the Huguenot Wars, arriving in New York with his wife and first child, 13 year old Henry Mershon (#689), in 1685.
Family lore explains that Henri left his son with friends or relatives in Newtown, New York and returned to France to bring the rest of his family to America. [This webmaster notes that there are no details about whether his wife stayed in America or returned with Henri to France.] Some written accounts found state that Henri arrived with his wife and family, including his son Henry. If that is correct information, then Henri did not return to France to get the rest of his family. Whichever is the case, nothing else is known about Henri.
