"[Samuel Huxford] Being a mariner and ship's Captain, he made frequent trip to America. He married ESTHER NORTON about 1682 in Edgartown, Dukes, Massachusetts. She was born about 1664, daughter of NICHOLAS NORTON and ELIZABETH ISAAC. He first lived in Boston and removed to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts in 1679. He was believed to be "lost at sea" about 1692. One Huxford researcher has found information in England that leads her to believe that he did not die at sea. From documentation found in England, she believes that on a return trip to England, Samuel got tied up in court proceedings which delayed his return. Thinking that he had died at sea, his wife remarried to JONATHAN DUNHAM. Records found there indicate that Samuel apparently married again and had, at least, a daughter in England. No further can be found about him. She died about 1724 in Edgartown, Massachusetts."

"He is believed to be the first in the Huxford line in the New World.  He was born about 1660 in Long Bredy, Dorsetshire, England.  Being a mariner and ship's Captain, he made frequent trips to America.  He married ESTHER NORTON about 1682 in Edgartown, Dukes, Massachusetts.  Esther was born about 1664, daughter of NICHOLAS NORTON and ELIZABETH ISAAC.  Samuel first lived in Boston and removed to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts in 1679.  He was believed to be "lost at sea" about 1692.  Information still being researched in England have found that it is believed that he did not die at sea.  From documentation found in England it is believed that on a return trip to England, Samuel got tied up in court proceedings which delayed his return.  Thinking that he died at sea, Esther remarried to JONATHAN DUNHAM.  Records found there indicate that Samuel apparently married again and had a daughter Mary in England.  No further can be found about him."

After his first wife died, Jonathan Dunham married again in Edgartown after 8 June 1690 to Esther (Norton) Huxford. She was the daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth ? Norton, and the widow of Samuel Huxford [Note: Esther is Sarah Huxford's grandmother. Sarah Huxford (#138) was Daniel Dunham (#137)'s wife; therefore, it seems that Esther married her granddaughter's husband's uncle, Jonathan Dunham ] Esther was born ca. 1662 and died shortly before 8 April 1724 when inventory of her estate was taken by her son Samuel Huxford.) (Source of blue information is Gratia Dunham Mahoney via e-mail to <dunham-donham@rootsquest.com> on 7 August 2002. Her references are History of Martha's Vineyard and Dukes Co. Court Records)

Samuel and Esther had at least one child, Samuel (#275).
