“Upshur County Meeting”

At a meeting of the people of Upshur county, held at the Court House on Saturday, the 2d day of April, 1864, to appoint delegates to the Convention to be held at Parkersburg, on the 20th inst., to appoint delegates to the National Convention, proposed to be held in the city of Baltimore on the 7th day of June, 1864.

On motion of Mr. D. D. T. Farnsworth, David S. Haseiden was called to the chair, and F. Berlin was appointed Secretary.

On motion of E. J. Colerider, it was

Resolved, That tour [four] delegates from each township, and six delegates for the county at large, be elected to represent this county at the Parkersburg Convention.

Whereupon the following delegates were elected by the meeting:

For Washington township - N B. Walmsley, G. D. Marple, John Beer and Solomon Day.

Union township - James Keesling, Lair Dean, Anthony Pifer and S. S. Leonard.

Warren township - O. B. Loundon, Alva Teter, J. L. D. Blake and Philip Depoy.

Buckhannon Township- D. D. T. Farnsworth, N. H. Taft, F. Berlin and E. J. Colerider.

Meade Township - George Clark, Cyrus Wicks, Benj. Gould and Alva Brooks.

Banks Township - C. S. Hayes, Garrett Armstrong, Anson Young and John W. Wilson.

Delegates for the County at large - Jno. L. Smith, A. B. Robrbough, Dr. D. S. Pinnell, J.B. Pifer, Jacob Teter and Jacob Waugh.

On motion, the President was added to the list of delegates.

On motion of Mr. D. D. T. Farnsworth, the following resolution was adopted.

Resolved, That our delegates to the Parkersburg Convention are hereby instructed to cast their votes for delegates to the National nominating Convention to be held in the city of Baltimore, who will cast their votes in favor of the nomination of Abraham Lincoln for President of the United States, as long as there is any hope of his nomination; and after him for such unconditional Union man as will in the main, carry out the principles of the present administration.

On motion of Mr. Coleridger, it was

Resolved, That the proceedings of this meeting be published in the West Virginia Republican and the Wheeling Intelligencer.

On motion, the meeting adjourned.
