Proof of Christopher Strader (#237)'s Contribution to Revolutionary War Supplies

Below: Commissioner's books for Hampshire County prove that Christopher was living in Hampshire County, Virginia during the Revolutionary War and that Christopher provided supplies needed by the American army. The May 1780 General Assembly act authorized the governor to impress supplies needed by the American army. Jefferson, the governor of Virginia at the time, appointed commissioners to carry out the terms of the act. When property was impressed by the commissioners, they gave the owner a certificate that described what was taken. After the war, the certificates could be settled with land grant claims.
