July 28th 1847

Dear Sir

Your letter came duly to hand, and should have been answered before this time, but that I was in hopes of obtaining a paper, which might have confirmed perhaps the date of Love’s death; this after some search I have been unable to find. The other particulars respecting him I give in the certificate.

With regard to the application which you make, I have to inform you that there is no vacancy in the male department of the Eastern Asylum. When a available one opens, I will write & inform you. If in the mean while the friends of the patient should decline having him brought on, or some other contingency should preclude this procedure entirely, please inform me at the time, in order that some other applicant may be received in the place reserved for him.

Your’s respectively,
John M. Galt,
Superintendent & Physician
of the Eastern Asylum

I hereby certify that William Love was admitted as a patient into the Lunatic Hospital at Williamsburg (now entitled the Eastern Asylum), from the County of Shenandoah, on the 28th of April 1803.

John M. Galt
Superintindent
of the Eastern Asylum
