Anthony C. Rice's (#23)Civil War Experience

Below is a U. S. Civil War draft registration dated July 1, 1863. Anthony is listed as A. C. Rice, living in Pickaway Township in Pickaway, Ohio. His class is 1 and in the 12th District. His age is 32, and his estimated birth year is "abt 1831". He is listed as white, married, and born in Ohio.

According to History of Franklin and Pickaway Counties Ohio, published by Williams Bros. in 1880, p.150, an A. C. The new unit was organized Sunday, May 8, at Camp Dennison (Cincinnati, Ohio) with 838 men under the command of Colonel Harley H. Sage for one hundred days' service. Colonel Sage had been in charge of several regiments prior to this time including the 92nd.

The 155th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry (OVI) was a Union Army infantry regiment. It was among scores of regiments raised as Hundred Days Men to provide relief for veteran troops to enable a major U.S. War Department push to end the war within 100 days. It was active May - August 1864. The regiment's function was garrison and guard duty.

The 155th Ohio lost 20 enlisted men to disease.
