1790 Berks County, Pennsylvania Census

Below is a copy of an original page (#107) in the 1790 Berks County, Bern Township Pennsylvania Census. Until 2017, it was thought by this webmaster that the Daniel listed was Daniel Albright (#109). (See the note below the census for a recent analysis by the webmaster.

Circled in red is a Daniel Albrecht; in blue are a Henry and a Jacob. The column heads are: 1) Names of Heads of Families, 2) Free white males of 16 years and upward, including heads of families, 3) Free white males under 16 years, 4) Free white females, including heads of families, 5) All other free persons, 6) slaves.

[Note: For the following reasons, the Daniel listed in this census is probably not Daniel Albright (#109).

1. Although Daniel Albright (#109) had a brother named Henry (#99) and a brother and father (Jacob Albright (#197/217)) named Jacob, ..... all names that appear on this census.... there is evidence that Daniel's family had moved from Pennsylvania to North Carolina about 1763. Evidence is Henry Albright's Revolutionary War pension apllication, which states"He was born in the State of Pennsylvania on the 4th of May 1759--and was removed to the County of Orange in North Carolina when about four years of age, where he hath resided every since." This information indicates that Jacob Albright, Daniel and Henry's father, moved the family from Berks County, Pennsylvania to Orange County, North Carolina about 1763. Therefore, Daniel (#109) was most likely living in North Carolina in 1790.

2. According to e-mail from Maria Bruce 2005 (mBruce9681@aol.com),Daniel Albright (#109) was married about 1789. LDS says the marriage was in North Carolina.
