# 10 g George Washington Kenney

1840-1911

George went to Iowa to be with his brother (Joseph) for the purpose of traveling West with Him. George opted to take the stage or train back to Iowa and then Ohio so he survived and lived a full life. (Had seven children.) (Below are photographs of George and Arvesta. The originals are in the possession of Matt Kenney.)

GEORGE WASHINGTON KENNEY

George Washington Kenney was the son of Albert Gillespie Kenney and Susan Bussard Kenney and was born in Porter township, Delaware Co., O. on Aug. 28, 1840 and died Nov. 10, 1911, age 71 yrs., 2 mos. and 12 days. One brother, Allen and four sisters, Eliza Longfellow, Susan Morton, Louisa Conger and Ellen Hart survive.

He lived on the farm with his parents until maturity and then went to the far West for a number of years, engaging in mining in Montana. After returning to his parents home, he married Emma Arvesta Blayney on May 18, 1871. Seven children were born to them, 3 boys, Edwin, Homer and Virgil who died in infancy, and 4 girls, Myrtle Doty of Columbus, O., Helen Wilson of Denver, Colo., Misses Lulu and Goldie at home with their mother on the farm near Marengo. After living on a farm in Delaware Co. for 16 yrs., the family moved to Marengo where he engaged in the mercantile business for about [??] [Note: part of the next line has been cut off from the copy] business in the fall of 1906 the family moved to their present home on the farm, one mile south of Marengo.

About six months ago while at work on the farm he had a slight stroke, he seemed to recover but died after 2 weeks.

He was a good citizen, plain, honorable and good-hearted.

The funeral was on Tuesday at 10:30 at the home, 1 mile south of Marengo, wth Rev. Huffman of Edison officiating.

Buried at East Liberty Cemetery in Porter Township of Delaware County is George, Emma A. Kenney, Lulu M. Heckart, and Helen M. Raines. George is Sarah Catherine Kenney's #10 brother and Albert and Susannah Kenney's son.

 

The tombstones are as follows: Father George Washington Kenney, Mother Emma Arvesta Blayney, Daughter Lulu M. Heckart, and Helen M. Raines (unknown relationship to the family.)
