Russell Rice Thatcher (#6a), Hazel Kirk Thatcher (#6)'s brother

 

Russell Rice Thatcher was born on 12 February 1886 at Kingston, Ohio.

According to the 1900 US Census, he was 14 years old and living at 888 Court Street, Circleville, Ohio with his parents and sister, Hazel.

His mother died of consumption in 1904, when he was 18. At that time, his sister went to live with their maternal, Aunt Jennie Wannamaker. It is unknown where Russell lived, but it is assumed that he continued to live with his father after his mother's death, until his father died just 4 years later. The webmaster has been unable to find a 1910 census that shows where Russell was living that year.

Russell first married Jennette (Jeanette) Orlean Glaser.[Note: She is the daughter of Herman and Daisy Glaser according to the 1900 census.] Jennette is listed as Russell's wife on his WWI Draft Registration. They lived at 1308 W-115 Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He is listed as self-employed in the occupation of auto livery. The date of their marriage is unknown.

According to the 1920 Federal Census, Russell (age 35) is living with his mother-in-law, Daisy F. Glaser (age 48), his wife Jeanette Thatcher (age 27), and son Russell Thatcher Jr. (age 5). The census states that he is the proprietor of a Taxi Company.

According to the 1930 Census, Russell's son, Russell R. Thatcher (age 15) is living with his mother Jennie O Thatcher (age 39), and step-grandfather Robert M. Reed (age 57) and grandmother Daisy F. Reed (age 58). [Note: Daisy F. Glaser had remarried.] The 1930 census also shows Russell is divorced and living on Sheridan Road in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He is a Commercial Salesman for a Cab Company.

According to the 1940 United States Federal Census, Russell (age 54) is listed with wife, Bernice Thatcher (44), and Marie Reeder (age 22). [Note: Marie Reeder is Bernice's child from her first marriage.]

Below: These three photographs were found in Jane's Trunk. The first was labeled, "Don and Caroline Thatcher and Russell Thatcher." The second shows Russell standing at the left of the other man. The third image shows Russell at the right of the picture.

According to the 1940 census, son, Russell Jr. (age 25), is living with Jeannette Thatcher (age 50) and grandparents Robert M. Reed (aged 69) and Daisy G. Reed (age 70). Russell Jr. is the Proprietor of a Restaurant. Russell Jr. died on 3 December 1970.

According to Russell Rice Thatcher's U.S. World War II Draft Registration Card in 1942, his place of employment is City Hall, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He was 56 years old and lives at 5348 Winthrop Ave, Chicago, Illinois with his wife Bernice.

Russell Died:14 April 1957, and is buried in Chicago, Illinois. The cemetery is Chapel Hill Gardens, West Oakbrook Terrace, Du Page County, Illinois.
