Below is the settlement sheet for estate of Joseph Kenney, located by Doug Hart. The document was a microfilm copy that the LDS Library had made in Morgantown West Virginia in 1959 . It had been posted on Ancestry.com. The images are unindexed, but Envelope 49 that had been entered in as an index entry on microfilm to an 1835 settlement of the Estate of Joseph Kenney was there. Doug Hart is a descendant of Joseph Kenney.
In order to post the information here, the index card is shown as the first image. Image 2 is a small version of the entire settlement sheet. Image 3 is an enlarged page of the first section of the settlement sheet and Image 4 is an enlarged page of the second section of the settlement sheet.
As Doug Hart summarized in his analysis of this sheet to other descendants of Joseph Kenny in his extensive search, "It shows that the estate paid out $1,995.64, mostly for various judgments and debts, including $450 to the Bank of the Valley, $361.77 to John E. Smith for what was owed to Joseph's daughter, Susan , from her guardianship, $100 to his son John in part satisfaction of his judgment, a balance of $70 due to Joseph's lawyer, D. W. Barton, for professional services in sundry suits, and $20 to Edward Bechtol, administrator of Joseph's deceased daughter, Catherine.
The asset side of the ledger shows that the estate had collected $1,834.61 from Charles Blue and the Hampshire County Sheriff. Charles Blue was the person to whose custody Joseph was committed when he was declared a lunatic. The entry infers there may have been a suit against Mr. Blue and/or the sheriff, so I think there is more to discover to learn exactly what happened in Joseph's final years."
