Miscellaneous:
John
was the first Astatt to reside at Martha's Vineyard. He probably belonged
to a family of this name which resided in Lyme, Conn., and various branches
of it are found under the spelling of Atsett, Adsit and possibly Edget.
John was a tailor and was admitted the church at E. 1748 which is the
probable date of his appearance on the Island. He was in the "alarm
list" of the militia in 1757 and moved to Conway, Massachusetts
before 1790. (Source: The History of Martha's Vineyard by Dr.
Charles Banks, 1911, Volume III Family Genealogies: pp. 27-30).
John and
Bathsheba had six children: John, Thomas, Bathsheba, Sarah, Mary,
and ___ Astatt (#70) (The source of this information is The History of Martha's Vineyard by Dr. Charles Banks, 1911, Volume III Family Genealogies: pp.
