Ephraim Leach (#129)'s Locations

The first map below shows an overview of the Connecticut and New York Counties where Ephraim lived and visited. In I744, Ephraim was born in Windham County, the most northeast county of Connecticut.

In 1762, he married Dorothy Bennett in New Fairfield, Connecticut. Sometime prior to 1765, he owned land in New Fairfield, CT, which he leased to his brother. New Fairflield is shown on the second map below (dated 1766) along the northwest edge of Fairfield County.

At some point, Ephraim moved to Dutchess County, NY. This eastern county of New York boarders Connecticut, as show in this first map. More details are shown in the third map below.

In 1790, Ephraim was in Pawling in Dutchess County, shown below in inset and in an enlarged image. In 1794, he was shopping at the Duncan store in Dover. In 1810, he was listed as living in Dover on the census. Pawling was established in 1788. Part of the town was used to form Dover in 1807. George Washington established his headquarters in the town of Pawling for two months in 1778. Ephraim may have been living in Pawling at the time.
